Hannah Bartos
about

Hannah Bartos is a multidisciplinary artist based in London and Qatar.
Working across photography, text, video, sculpture and textiles, her work focuses upon the themes of belonging, gender and migration.
Hannah is fascinated with how society is organised and patterns of human interaction. Her creative process is research-led, being grounded in data and shaped by sociological theories on how we create meaning and differentiate social groups.
Through her artistic practice, she interrogates the role of arbitrary boundaries, authority and social structures. A discourse that centres around who fits into society and who makes accommodations. Her artwork emerges from consideration of ‘othered’ groups, revealing the unseen or overlooked, alongside the interplay between private and public spheres of life.
Trained in documentary photography at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Communication, she has attracted critical recognition for her work at a national and international level; notably, short-listing for several prizes and nomination for awards.
A fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society, Hannah has a Ph.D. in Sociology and Religion (SOAS) and received a 'Distinction' at Masters level for Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the University of the Arts London (LCC).
